Appointed by Pope Francis on 2 February 2024, Bishop Alan is the first Jesuit bishop in Ireland. A native of Cloughmills, Co. Antrim, he brings decades of pastoral experience and a deep love for this diocese.

The cathedral church of the Diocese of Down & Connor since 1986, St Peter's stands as a beacon of faith in the heart of West Belfast. Built in 1866 in the Gothic Revival style, its iconic twin spires — added in 1886 — are among the most recognisable landmarks in the city.
The cathedral hosts the principal liturgies of the diocese, including ordinations, the Chrism Mass, and major feast day celebrations under the leadership of the Bishop.
